American Film Institute Announces It’s Coveted “Top-10 Movies of 2016” List

2016 is coming to a close and so is our movie-watching experience for the year. To properly close out the year, the American Film Institute has officially announced its picks for the Top 10 movies of 2016. The list is considered to be one of the standard lists of the best movies of that year and hence, many of these can be expected to win big at the Oscars too. Here is the top 10 list (alphabetically):

ARRIVAL

FENCES

HACKSAW RIDGE

HELL OR HIGH WATER

LA LA LAND

MANCHESTER BY THE SEA

MOONLIGHT

SILENCE

SULLY

ZOOTOPIA

Not many surprises there. However, there were few films which I liked  personally and I think should have been in this list – The Neon Demon, Moana and Green Room. Also, Ben Affleck’s Live by Night is yet to be screened and though I haven’t seen Jackie, it has garnered big acclaim.

The race to make it into the Top 10 selection of films in 2016 has become a highly contested competition, but all ten of these films definitely earned their spots. With the 2017 Oscar season in high gear, we can likely expect quite a few of these films to garner more honors over the course of the next few months.

What do you think of the American Film Institute‘s choices for 2016’s top movies? Did your favorite film of the year make the cut?
