Captain Marvel: A Pivotal Link to the End Game !

Captain Marvel is a 2019 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Carol Danvers. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the twenty-first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The film is written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, with Geneva Robertson-Dworet also contributing to the screenplay.

Brie Larson enters the MCU stepping into the titular role alongside Samuel L. JacksonMendelsohnHounsouPaceLynchChanAnnette BeningGregg, and Jude Law.

Set in the mid 90’s, the story follows Danvers as she becomes Captain Marvel after Earth is caught in the center of a galactic conflict between two alien worlds.

This in a nutshell is supposed to serve as the plot for the origin of Captain Marvel.

So, let’s find out what works here:

The Movie is made watchable because of some good Performances primarily by Jackson, Mendelsohn, Hounsou, Bening, Lynch and Law

But the one who leads this bunch and packs a punch is Larson

Playing the title role, she essays the frustration, angst, despair of hanging on, searching for answers and pursuing the truth no matter the cost.

She comes into her own towards the 3rd Act and fairly proves why this Captain will be relevant to the Endgame

The Chemistry she shares with Jackson is another highlight and livens up proceedings

The Cinematography, the Action Set Pieces and the CGI all do justice to the Universe as expected

The Screen play and Direction tend to waver during the 2nd Act which is where the movie tends to lose steam

However, Boden and Fleck pick up pace where required to allow us to stay invested in Captain Marvel

Another thing they get right is the Production Design and the 90’s

They capture it to the tee and take us down Memory Lane

The Music, Quirks, Video Tapes, Radio Shack, Dial In Connections all of it is worth the Nostalgia

A wacky addition to the host of characters also happens to be Goose the Cat

Without giving out spoilers, this character is a delight to witness specially in the 3rd Act

  • So, what works?

The Performances

The VFX and CGI

The Chemistry between Marvel and Fury

Goose the Cat

The Production Design

The Mid and End Credits(Go watch for yourself!)

The Action Set Pieces

The Soundtrack right out of the 90’s

  • And what doesn’t?

The drag in the 2nd Act

Less Screen time to some characters

Inconsistency in Narrative

The Verdict?

Captain Marvel deserves a One Time Viewing for all the watchable elements

And lastly, for being the pivotal link to The Avengers Endgame when it arrives

Watching this, we will know why Captain Marvel is definitely the strongest Avenger!
