Hotel Mumbai is an upcoming American-Australian thriller film based on the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks which shook the world. It is made by Australian director Anthony Maras and written by John Collee and Maras.
Specifically based on the 2009 documentary Surviving Mumbai, the movie will tell the story about the Mumbai attacks in 2008 at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in India.
The film stars Dev Patel – fresh from his Oscar nominated role from the acclaimed movie Lion. Hotel Mumbai also stars Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi, Anupam Kher, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Jason Isaacs, Suhail Nayyar and Natasha Liu Bordizzo.
Recently a first look of the movie was released with Dev Patel featuring in it, hiding from the bullet shots probably in the hotel.
Hotel Mumbai gets its first promo screenings this week in Berlin ahead of a likely festival platform or awards season release later this year. Australia and U.S.-based Arclight Films is handling the global sales.
Considering the fact that I am from Mumbai, the place where these deadly terror attacks happened, it will be interesting to see how an Australian portrays the unforgettable days on the celluloid, with mostly an American or Australian cast. Dev Patel is in the news for all the right reasons thanks to the Oscar nod, and his presence will surely create the right amount of buzz for Hotel Mumbai.
