Trailer Watch: War for the Planet of the Apes’ trailer is dark and visually stunning!

Its raining trailers! 20th Century Fox launched this War For The Planet Of The Apes trailer on its official YouTube channel, and it’s pretty damn hard not to be impressed. The opening shot is both stunning and a beautiful link back to the original Planet of The Apes, and what follows is dark, thrilling, and exciting. We’ve been seeing a lot of 2017 trailers in recent weeks, but this preview further solidifies director Matt Reeves’ blockbuster as one of our most anticipated of the upcoming year. Catch the trailer below:

2014’s “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” was the highest-grossing movie from the “Planet of the Apes” franchise yet with over $700 million worldwide at the box office, so 20th Century Fox and “Dawn” director Matt Reeves had a big challenge with the next movie, “War for the Planet of the Apes.” But as the first trailer shows, they are up for the challenge.

As its title suggests, War for the Planet of the Apes continues the ape-human conflict that began in Dawn: the trailer footage shows it to be extremely heavy duty, with lots of high-grade weaponry in use. The war looks to be personalised in the forms of Caesar (Andy Serkis again, in motion capture) and the shaven-headed Colonel played by Woody Harrelson.

War for the Planet of the Apes is scheduled for release on 14 July in the US and UK.
