Manmarziyaan – Kashyap ki yaa Aanand ki?

Manmarziyaan marks a welcome departure for Anurag Kashyap from the dark brand of cinema he has come to be associated with

Aanand Rai known for his slice of life rom-coms teams up with Kashyap making use of an effervescent script penned by Kanika Dhillon( Ra.OneBilluOm Shanti Om)

Anurag is also aided in his vision of how love is seen, acted on and perceived by youngsters today

Taapsee, Vicky and Abhishek are the people who happen to be part of this entire mess that borders around their views of love

Taapsee and Vicky(Rumi and Vicky) are the quintessential new age couple who lust for each other, claim to love each other and diss all societal conventions to pursue their Fyaar without an ounce of shame

However when it comes to marriage: Rumi is waiting, Vicky is stalling as Responsibilities can’t be understood but Fyaar can’t be ignored( After all, F-ucking P-Yaar har jism ko MAANGTA hai NAA!)

And here Kashyap brings in Abhishek (Robbie), the banker from UK looking a match who falls for the feisty Rumi

This in a nutshell is what Manmarziyaan is all about. So, does their Fyaar continue or Pyaar starts?

Now here is where Kashyap scores with the treatment of Manmarziyaan

He takes Dhillon’s script and infuses it with a relatability that is very hard to be ignored

The needs, angst, and impulses of today’s youngsters is portrayed in your face and is pretty hard to ignore

The indecisiveness of the characters is portrayed with such ebullience that it does not hit us hard in the gut

We have to constantly keep our mind open to what Kashyap throws at us through out the span of those 150 minutes

So let’s look at what’s good out here:

The soundtrack by Amit Trivedi is superfluous and just captures Punjab to the tee and makes you want to shake a leg even while being seated

The Cinematography by Sylvester Fonseca is vibrant, trendy and in your eyes capturing the North in all its flavors

The Script and Dialogues are crisp, witty and razor sharp that will make you think about how it is helping the story move ahead

The Performances by the supporting cast are top rate and end up making us believe we are part of the family while the trio is battling their dilemma

Vicky Kaushal and Abhishek Bachchan succeed in portraying 2 opposite ends of a spectrum with wonderful alacrity and stand out without out shining each other

Bachchan, I would like to add makes a restrained come back and emotes more through his expressions

The star of the show here is Taapsee without a doubt who owns this vehicle with a firebrand act

Anurag Kashyap definitely deserves Kudos for getting the best out of the crew

He definitely goes one step ahead, picks up a subject he is NOT KNOWN for and makes it his own in a STYLE he knows better than any one else

The Verdict? There is ONLY ONE

We HAVE TO, AND I MEAN WE HAVE TO WATCH Manmarziyaan IN THEATERS

THESE ARE GEMS THAT EMERGE ONCE IN A WHILE, WHAT I WOULD CHOOSE TO CALL A WELL MADE PRODUCT

P.S: There is a recurring motif of TWINS that Kashyap uses right from the opening credits till the end and if you’re smart enough to observe, you will understand the significance of this brilliant ruse
